Essence of the trip
A dazzling, domed, white-stone palace commanding thrilling sea views, Villa Sheherazade is one of the most exclusive addresses on the Croatian Adriatic. Featuring its own pier, beach and an intriguing history, Sheherezade offers the ultimate Mediterranean luxury retreat. Poised on a peaceful clifftop, overlooking the impossibly clear Adriatic, the villa faces both the picture-perfect paradise island of Lokrum and Dubrovnik's famous Old Town.
This trip will give you
- Unbelievable peace of mind and luxury while we cater to your every need – from delivering your favourite daily newspaper to a limo transfer, or organising that private painting course you've been dreaming about for years.
- The opportunity to sail around the Dubrovnik archipelago for a day, soaking up the sun and sampling the freshest oysters the Adriatic has to offer.
- The chance to go scuba diving or see Dubrovnik's Old Town from a different perspective on a private kayaking tour.
Sun-blessed cinematic views greet you everywhere. The villa is surrounded by 4,000m2 of white-stone terraces, two of which are roof terraces, while the third one has been transformed into a large, secluded outdoor pool with a Jacuzzi next to it.
Legend has it that a Lithuanian entrepreneur fleeing Russia's October Revolution built the villa in the 1920s for his mistress, who he called Scheherazade. No expense was spared in decorating the love nest with bespoke furniture and rare artefacts from all over the world. True or not, the history of this villa is inextricably bound with romance – Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton once stayed here while shooting a movie in Dubrovnik.
Spread over 4,200m2 and three finery-festooned floors, Villa Scheherazade reveals a world of reassuring luxury – high, sweeping ceilings, hidden alcoves, plush fabrics, wonderful art, and Moorish architectural detail that delights the eye.
Follow the wood-panelled hallway into the heart of the villa – you find a graceful living room where a turquoise panorama of the Adriatic Sea commands admiration from the upholstered sofas and armchairs. For more formal occasions, pass on into the film set-like Grand Salon, which opens onto a huge, beautiful balustrade – perfect for entertaining night and day.
Upstairs, five en-suite bedrooms await, each with uninterrupted views of the sea or peaceful gardens, with the views framed by the hand-sculpted stone columns that support the windows. The master bedroom – named ‘Room 1001' after the One Thousand and One Nights collection of tales itself, featuring a Persian king and his wife, Scheherazade – leads to a majestic marble bathroom with Jacuzzi and out onto the balustrade balcony, where there is an exclusive private view of the Dalmatian Coast.
